grand-fondo-2016A Mexican Conquest at The GFNY Cozumel 2016 Race

Mexican Flavio Alejandro De Luna Davila was the overall winner of the cycling race GFNY Cozumel 2016. The race consists of 160 kilometers on a circuit of two laps around the island Cozumel.

The third edition GFNY Cozumel 2016 race held on Sunday, November 13th, broke a record number of participants. It was a fast race thanks to good weather conditions.

grand-fondo-20163Flavio Alejandro De Luna Dávila took first place in a spectacular closing in the final meters of the race, crossing the finish line in a total time of 3:55:19 (unofficial time). In second place was the U.S. Men’s Brandon Mata and Brazilian Joao Vitor Fernandes De Oliveira took third place.

In the Women’s Category, Céline Shaerer from Switzerland stopped the clock in 3:59:39 followed second by Mexican Gabriela Mijangos and Brenda Bianca Gamez Iñigo in third place.

The awards were presented by representatives of state and municipal governments in Quintana Roo Park. It was reported that finishing times could have been faster but Official and Press Vehicles moving too close to the leaders hindered them from advancing faster.

westinThe Westin by Marriott Cozumel to Open

The Westin by Marriott, Cozumel will be opening on March 1st, 2017. The hotel is to be one of a kind on the island, consisting of a convention center and rooms aimed at attracting sport enthusiasts.

A setback in construction was blamed on IVA Taxes and the rise of the American dollar that caused a 12% increase in construction. When the work began on July 10, 2014 the value of the dollar was under 13 Mexican pesos and today has exceeded 19 pesos. The original budget of 30 Million dollars was now 34 Million.

The Westin is said to be unlike any other hotel operating in Cozumel. The closest competition will be the Presidente Intercontinental Hotel. There will be 156 rooms in 15 floors to accommodate foreign and national visitors.

50 percent of the rooms will have bicycle racks and a complete fitness area on site to capture the sporting tourists. Cozumel began attracting this population of tourist in 2009 when the island began to host international triathlons.

Yeah! The Medicine Drive is a wonderful opportunity if you like my family have medications that you no longer need. This is so much easier than asking around the neighborhood if anyone can use a certain medication. Please check your medicine cabinets and drop off any medication that is still usable at one of the designated locations.

The Cozumel Sun’s Christmas Baskets will be paid for by our On-Going Garage Sale. We can use:

USED POTS AND PANS AND KITCHEN UTENSILS! Please do not throw your out pots and pans when you replace them. The local people are not looking for them to look like new, if they still work, they need them. Some cook over an open fire.

FURNITURE. Tables, chairs, stools, outdoor and indoor. They are willing to repair and fix minor flaws.

CLOTHING is divided into free, 5, 10, 15, and 20 pesos. What we do not sell in the next few weeks will be donated to Finca families, then we will start all over again in January. We provide clothing to anyone in need year around, free of charge.

We have cleaned out our family closets, toy boxes, game shelves, tool room, and kitchen cabinets twice. If you can donate items, do so quickly so we can include it in our last sale before Christmas.
