Taken from a Press Release: Chetumal, Quintana Roo, 26 August. – Governor Roberto Borge Angulo announced that it has issued instructions for this year’s “September Testament Month” campaign and that is also extending the campaign to the month of October, in order to generate savings for the largest possible number of people in Quintana Roo. He stressed that for the third consecutive year, thinking of the family economy, the cost to prepare this document in 79 state notaries will be $1,300 pesos, including Value Added Tax (VAT). He stated that “The Testament Month”  has become the best opportunity for those seeking to get one’s affairs in order and avoid inheritance conflicts in case of an unforeseen death. According to the Press Release, last year 4,564 of these notarized documents were produced in the state of which, 3, 747 were produced during the annual campaign. The Chief Executive said that determination to extend “September Testament Month” to October is to allow citizens to take advantage the affordable cost with exemption from notary fees. Government Secretary Gabriel Mendicuti Loría recognized the Board of Notaries of Quintana Roo, for taking part in this successful annual campaign. He anticipates that the estimated 79 notaries established in eight of the 10 municipalities will reach the goal to produce at least 4, 800 documents. COZUMEL, September 2. The project “” will be a catalyst for the economic revival of the city center, creating a public space that represents a new attraction for tourists and a meeting place for the enjoyment of cozumel families said the Mayor, Fredy Martin Marrufo. He therefore thanks the support of the State Government, which through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (SINTRA) will invest 95 million pesos in that work, with funds from the Program of Expenditure of the Federation (PEF). “It certainly is a very important project for our town, providing the people and tourists who visit us a new face of Cozumel with a modern and attractive park, preserving the architectural design and the famous monuments of Benito Juarez Park” he said. In this regard, Martin Marrufo said that prior to the development of the final design a series of meetings took place with representatives of the private sector, chambers of commerce, social sectors; the Consultative Council of the City and the College of Architects and Engineers who expressed their opinions and suggestions to enrich the proposal.

Benito Juarez Park 011

As the Saying Goes……”If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix IT!”

I did not have time to dig through my archives and share the many pictures that I have taken in Benito Juarez Park over many years. They portray the soul of the people of Cozumel, the Gold, the Powerful, the Family. Entire families out in the park dressed in their Sunday best, from Abuelita wearing her shawl to protect her from the cool evening breeze to the younger  member all dressed up and having a ball running around the park. There was so much to see, everything was alive with the culture, the arts & crafts, the food, the performing artists.   Benito Juarez Park 003There  was music and dancing.  A wonderful mix of locals and tourists alike enjoyed the beautiful Cozumel evenings either sitting back and taking it all in or dancing till you were ready to drop. Everyone was as one, comfortable around the bandstand.  No one seemed to notice the tourists that did not have a  bone in their body that could imitate a rhythm of any sort, nor the ones that had just a touch too much beer. It was a wonderful warm and welcoming evening at the town square that served to remind us visitors what life is really about, God, your family, and your culture. That is what I went to Benito Juarez Park to see and do every trip I took, every night I was here as a tourist. I beg the Government not to take that away from future visitors, and I say once again, If it Ain’t broke, for heavens sake, leave it alone and get $95,000 pesos worth of sand on the boardwalk downtown. You’ll have more tourists boosting the economy than you have had in years! Benito Juarez Park 004 Benito Juarez Park 010
