2020 Income Requirements for Mexico Temporary & Permanent Residency Visas

Mexican Consulates abroad and Immigration offices in Mexico continue to use the national Minimum Salary to calculate “economic solvency” qualification criteria for residency in Mexico. Using this criteria, the 2020 income requirements for temporary and permanent Mexico Visas are as follows:

Temporary Residency

A foreign income (past six months) of 300 days’ worth of the Mexico minimum wage. Based on 19 pesos to one US Dollar this would be an approximate monthly income of $1,945.

Or

Have a savings balance over the past twelve months equivalent to 5,000 days’ worth of the Mexico minimum wage. This would calculate to a savings of approximately $32,400.

Pay Up time from that slice of Rosca!

Did you get the plastic figurine in your slice of Rosca on New Year’s day? Well, the time to pay is fast approaching! Traditionally, you must provide your family with the tamales of February 2nd.  This day is called Día de la Candelaria, or Candlemas.

Tamales are wonderful and are made in a variety of ways. Each region in Mexico has their own style. I will look up tamale recipes to place in The Cozumel Sun News ‘Recipe of the week” for those ambitious readers. The rest of you, find a restaurant quick!

Voices of Hope for Aphasia

A Susan Duncan reached us through The Cozumel Sun News Facebook page. Susan had read about my husband’s stroke and resulting Aphasia in The Cozumel Sun and wanted to meet us. She explained that worked with stroke victims that had Aphasia.

Let me explain some facts about this disability:

Aphasia is a communication disorder resulting from a stroke or other brain injury.

People with Aphasia have difficulty with speech, understanding, reading, and writing.

If you have Aphasia you might feel isolated, stay at home, and have few friends.

People may be inpatient with you, or misunderstand the difficulties that you face.

It is not lack of Intelligence!

My husband, like many other victims of Aphasia is the same intelligent man that I married, his communication skills are just impaired. He has faced all of the above for the past Fourteen years in Cozumel. We have never met anyone even close to having Charlie’s physical limitations or Aphasia that spoke English. Most people are truly afraid of what they do not understand; I can count one male friend that takes the time to spend time with Charlie.

Hope comes to town!

On Friday we had the biggest surprise of our lives as seventeen new friends showed up to meet Charlie and I. As it turned out, Susan was accompanied by a group of twenty-five people from “Voices of Hope for Aphasia.”  They were thrilled to meet Charlie and I, these men and women with Aphasia and their accompanying family members.

There were victims of stroke with varying degrees of physical disabilities, a few identical to Charlie’s. The eight people that did not attend were back in the cruise ship feeling under the weather; they sent messages of their disappointment of not being able to meet us.

Much in Common!

One husband and I shared almost identical stories of problems that we faced with hospital employees at the time of our spouses’ strokes and the need for patient advocates in hospitals. Charles made immediate friends and compared notes with these God sent people. I discovered that there is now new technology available online for speech therapy.

We are now part of The Voices of Hope family.  Charles and I will be communicating with them through the internet and Skype. We are even planning to cruise with them next year. There are no greater gifts than love and the knowledge that you are not alone. Thank you Susan Duncan and all our new friends!
