Predial and Garbage Sertvice Discounts 2021

As we posted in Facebook, the 2021 Predial (Property Tax) and Trash Removal Service discounts are now in effect. One of the new features that the above advertises is the option of paying online at www.cozumel.gob.mx. IT DID NOT process my payment several times. I therefore gave up. However, the website did enable me to print out my 2021 invoices. They automatically included the current discount of 25% for the predial and 20% for the Trash. This enabled me to budget and save time at the palace as I could go directly to a cashier and pay.

The website DOES NOT calculate INAPAM, the senior discount. You must go in person to have this discount calculated. Those of us that went the first of the month to pay using an INAPAM were told they could only pay at one location. THIS HAS BEEN changed to included other cashiers, including one at the palace.

U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico

This is a listing of the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico. Many inquiries are made to the Cozumel Sun News from relatives of tourists that find themselves in an emergency on the island. The Cozumel Consular Agency to contact is Terri Barnhart-Ocejo in Facebook.

We have done our best to guide callers to the appropriate contact to meet their needs. I have tracked down some caller´s loved ones, provided transportation and translation services. This has been done as a strictly humanitarian service; we are small and operate of donations. Your first contact should be your U.S. Consular agent. If you still need assistance, feel free to contact us.

New Changes that HAVE NOT YET HAPPENED

I have had the following announcement on hold since December:

¨The State has A Tax Decrease Effective January 1st! Great News for our State of Quintana Roo! President Obrador has announced that our State´s designation has been changed enabling us to receive A decrease in IVA taxes from 16% to 8%. The ISR will be reduced to 20% from 30%, Chetumal will once again be a FREE Zone. Exemption from the general tax on imports. and Exemption from the general tax on imports.¨

According to my sources it was official, however, from past experiences I decided to wait. MY RECEIPTS FOR PURCHASES SO FAR IN JANUARY ARE STILL CHARGING 16%. Also included but not listed above was an increase to the minimum wage. I am ASSUMING NONE OF THE ABOVE HAS BEEN PUT INTO EFFECT YET. I WILL LET READERS KNOW WHEN IT IS.

The Cozumel Country Club / Isla Maya Golf Club is Closing

Cozumel Sun News January 8, 2021

Cozumel Country Club (Cozumel Centro, Quintana Roo, Mexico)

Posted December 31, 2020 on Facebook

Confirming some sad news.  Thank you all out there, around the world, for the great years.  For the almost 20 years, Cozumel Country Club (Isla Maya Club de Golf, S.A. de C.V.) has been a proud member of the Cozumel community providing great golf experiences for our residents and the many tourists that visited this beautiful island.

Like so many other hospitality and service providers, the pandemic created numerous challenges for the Club, and the changes in the tourist and cruise line industry have been difficult. After many discussions about how to ensure a strong and viable future, we determined Cozumel Country Club was no longer sustainable and made the unfortunate decision to close the Club. The closure is effective January 31, 2021. We will continue to take tee times and be open for play until that date.

The members, employees and guests of this wonderful Club created many incredible memories, and we will miss the friendships and relationships built. We deeply appreciate and thank our members and guests for their support over the years. It has been a privilege and pleasure to serve the Cozumel community.
